Charles "Duke" Gibbs
I started making metal sculpture in 1962, when I was in high school in Northern California. On this site you'll find some of the work I've made since 1987, when I returned to sculpture after two decades that included Army service during the Vietnam War; working as a merchant seaman in Alaska, as an auto mechanic, as a carpenter, in TV production, and in publishing; and earning degrees from U.C. Berkeley and MIT. I'm married to a painter, Charlotte Andry Gibbs (charlotteandrygibbs.com). We have studios in our barn. I've been a full-time artist since 1999 and have exhibited at art museums and galleries in New England, Florida, California, Ohio, and New Orleans. I'm currently represented by The Field Gallery on Martha's Vineyard (fieldgallery.com) and Alpers Fine Art in Rockport, MA (alpersfineart.com).
